The Mountain Pine Beetle infestation is quite extensive in the Fraser Valley and Grand County. Although the beetles started their destruction of pine trees in the mid to late 1990's, the destruction did not reach epidemic proportions until 2004-2005. This animation shows the changes (dark red areas), as mapped, by year, with the final frame illustrating the comprehensive destruction. As a result, the Fraser Valley now always looks like Christmas, with its green and red (dead) trees!
